About the Wine: Many don’t know that Merlot is the most planted grape varietal in Bordeaux, France, and that it is actually a genetic “sibling” of Cabernet Sauvignon as they share one of the same parents, Cabernet Franc! We sourced our Merlot in 2018 from a small vineyard in Knights Valley. This vineyard is the same vineyard that supplies Heidi Barrett, the old head winemaker of Screaming Eagle, a world renowned winery. The Knights Valley AVA is the warmest region in Sonoma as it sits between the Mayacamas and Mount St Helena, resulting in a great environment for Bordeaux varietals. The elevation keeps the nights cool which helps retain acidity and keep the wines balanced. After pressing, the wine was aged for 24 months in 100% French Oak, before being bottled in December 2020.
Tasting Notes: Bright red fruits such as cherry & raspberry on the nose. Secondary notes of baking spices and eucalyptus leaf. Very balanced and well rounded.
Food Pairings: For cheeses, try Noord Hollander Gouda, a 4 year aged cow's milk cheese that has deep flavor with carmel overtones & tiny salt crystals.
