About the Wine: In celebration of the incredible 2019 winemaking season, Adam Carruth, owner & winemaker, is proud to announce the release of our inaugural, high-end label called Barrel Select. The first release of this label features two Bordeaux-inspired wines that are some of the best wines Carruth has produced, a 2019 BDX Blend and 2019 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Showcasing how Carruth Cellars has grown & matured over the 13+ years since our inception, these wines offer San Diego residents a taste of high-end Napa quality wines made locally in beautiful San Diego.
Winemaking: Our BDX is a co-fermented blend of Bordeaux varietals sourced from exceptional vineyards in Sonoma County. Produced in a Right Bank style, we start with a Merlot base and layer it with Cab Sauv, Malbec, Cab Franc and Petit Verdot. After extended maceration, the fruit was co-fermented and saignéed which resulted in a more concentrated wine with richer color & tannin. After pressing, the wine was barreled for two and a half years in 30% new French oak and 70% once used French Oak before being bottled in July 2022.
Tasting Notes: A multifaceted wine when it comes to aromas, flavors and textures. On the nose, you'll encounter enticing aromas of both red and black cherry. These notes are ripe and succulent, with the red cherry providing a slightly tart and vibrant element. In addition to the fruit, you’ll also detect a hint of cola, adding a touch of sweetness and complexity. The presence of rhubarb and tomato leaf scents further contributes to the wine's aromatic profile, providing a unique and herbaceous dimension. The wine has a soft and approachable finish, with the tannins and acidity integrated well, allowing the flavors to linger gently on the palate.
