About the Wine: The Kelly family settled in Napa in 1968 and were a driving force behind the preservation of Napa Valley’s agricultural community. In 2012, Gene & Paula Kelly purchased a 10 acre property on the west side of the Oak Knoll District, the majority of it planted with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The property is almost at the base of the Mayacamas mountains and is tucked away in a part of Oak Knoll that few visitors get to see. There is a slight slope to the vineyard, soils are fairly uniform throughout, and the vines are generally dry farmed. They keep a small percentage of the fruit to make their own wine, and sell the rest to prestigious wineries including Alpha Omega ($100 per bottle!), Stags Leap, and now Carruth Cellars.
Tasting Notes: Dark Chocolate, Bright Cherry and Warm Vanilla. Aroma of Delicate clove. Velvety and Opulent tannins. One of our favorite wines we made in 2019.
Food Pairings: You can’t go wrong with pairing a Napa Cab with a juicy steak. For veggie options, try grilled mushrooms or seasoned lentils.
