About the Wine: Many don’t know that Merlot is the most planted grape varietal in Bordeaux, France, and that it is actually a genetic “sibling” of Cabernet Sauvignon as they share one of the same parents, Cabernet Franc! Don’t let the movie Sideways trick you, Merlots are fabulous wines that can age for 10 plus years. We sourced our Merlot from Dry Creek Valley, which is located Northwest of Healdsburg in Sonoma County, at only 16 miles long and two miles wide. This rural wine region is an “in-betweener” weather wise, as it’s tempered by fog, but not dominated by it. Mill Creek Vineyards is a family owned winery & vineyard that the Kreck family purchased in 1965. At 55 acres, the ranch is located in the southern end of the Dry Creek Valley & grows only 5 varieties of grapes. After pressing, the wines were aged for three years in 20% new French Oak and 80% once-used French Oak. Before bottling in November 2021, our winemaker decided to blend in 20% Cabernet Sauvignon to add another complexity layer.
Tasting Notes: Delicious aromas of raspberry, cherry and vanilla, with licorice and a balanced acidity on the palate. This Merlot has medium plus tannins with a smooth finish.
Food Pairings: Steakhouse vibes! Pairs with red meats & pasta dishes
